A full day conference, free to attend, entitled “Creating Sustainable Community Transport in Northumberland” will be held on Wednesday 31st January 2007 at Choppington Social Welfare Centre. The conference is open to community transport operators and other organisations that use, need or run community based transport services, social care and healthcare commissioners and purchasers in the public sector, rural transport partnership members and organisations concerned with social and economic development who wish to encourage the creation of a sustainable community transport sector in the County.
The conference has been organised by the team of consultants working on the Northumberland Rural and Community Transport Project. Northumberland County Council has appointed Richard Armitage Transport Consultancy - in association with the TAS Partnership and Derek Halden Consultancy - to implement the project. Since October 2006, we have been developing our knowledge and understanding of community transport in Northumberland and formulating our ideas for the changes needed to make rural and community transport in Northumberland sustainable in the long term.
The conference will provide delegates with the opportunity to hear about the current situation and proposals for change and to shape these proposals by contributing their ideas and suggestions. Development support and other practical assistance will be provided to enable the proposals to be implemented. |
