In 2007, Richard Armitage Transport Consultancy completed a feasibility study on car-sharing for Cork City Council (Republic of Ireland).
Cork City Council has now accepted an offer from Mendes GoCar Ltd, a company based in Ireland, to operate a pilot car-sharing scheme in Cork. GoCar is in the process of gearing up to operate as Ireland's national car-sharing scheme, in partnership with an experienced European car club operator, details of which will be announced in February. Cork city centre will be GoCar's first location, opening in Summer 2008.
The GoCar project team includes Graham Lightfoot, Managing Director of Mendes GoCar Ltd, who was project manager of the Co-op Car Club pilot project in Dublin in 1997/8. The project team is being advised in the pre-launch planning period by Chas Ball, Associate Consultant with Richard Armitage Transport Consultancy, and formerly Development Manager of City Car Club, first of the four commercial car-sharing clubs operating in Britain to be established. |
