There is an NHS consultation underway about its Draft Carbon Reduction Strategy. In the “priorities for action” there are specific recommendations for how NHS Trusts should reduce carbon emissions from travel. In particular, it is proposed that

• “All NHS organisations will be expected to produce and publish a Board approved Sustainable Travel Plan by 2009”.
  
• “All NHS organisations should offer, and promote, at least a 20p per mile cycle mileage rate for staff”.
