TRANSPORT & SOCIAL EXCLUSION
Kath Tierney has worked on a range of transport projects designed to alleviate social exclusion. This has required the deployment of a range of both traditional consultation methods (e.g. telephone and face-to-face surveys, focus groups, community workshops and public meetings) and less conventional ones designed to ensure individuals and groups who do not usually participate in consultation programmes are reached. She has developed a short training programme for local volunteers interested in assisting with questionnaires and focus group work. She frequently uses her database and IT skills in survey analysis and when helping community transport organisations to upgrade their data systems and office environment, helping to get them ‘tender ready’.
TRANSPORT & HEALTH
Kath Tierney has specialist knowledge of all aspects of travel in the context of the NHS and healthcare, from travel planning in major hospitals, to reducing travel on business by community-based NHS staff or improving access to healthcare in rural areas. She has a sound understanding of current NHS policy with reference to transport and transport. Her understanding of personalised travel planning is being deployed to develop techniques that encourage people to build active travel into their everyday routines.
