Our clients need accessible door-to-door and kerb-to-kerb transport for people with mobility difficulties, for whom the bus is not always, or is never, a practical option. It is notoriously difficult to operate such services cost effectively, whilst maintaining an appropriate level of service quality.
We are currently working with Milton Keynes Council on the revamping of its accessible transport services. The new MK PlusBus service commenced on 22 June 2006.
It is operated by Milton Keynes Community Transport, a new company set up by Age Concern Milton Keynes and Ealing Community Transport, who have won the tenders to provide the new service.
When it does not work out, it becomes necessary for a service to close down. For the board and trustees of registered charity Lambeth Dial-a-Ride (LAMDAR), we organised an orderly closure. After 20 years of excellent local service, the financial and operational difficulties facing the charity had become insuperable. RATC made sure that all but one member of staff was found work, and made all the necessary legal and financial arrangements in relation to LAMDAR's formal dissolution, including disposal of its remaining assets in line with charitable law.
