Our clients want community-based road passenger transport systems that are appropriate, affordable, safe, accessible, and financially viable for the long-term. Community transport now forms part of government policy on road passenger transport, and guidance on community transport has been provided to local authorities (e.g. Local Transport Plans).
For the Cross River Partnership and London South Central, we assessed the need for CT in the London Boroughs of Lambeth and Southwark. We successfully bid for Single Regeneration Budget investment in a new CT for the area: Lambeth & Southwark Community Transport (or LaSCoT). We worked with the new board to recruit a director, establish the new organisation, and then assisted with its development. In 2006, LaSCoT merged with Hackney Community Transport, in order to secure its long-term development.
In Wigan, we are currently working with Wigan & District Community Transport, on the development of its new trading company, WCT Social Enterprise Ltd. Our client is Third Sector Enterprises.
Richard Armitage, RATC's managing director, was the founding chief officer of the Community Transport Association UK (1984-90). Since that time, the CTA has employed RATC to assist with its publications, conferences, training, and exhibition activities.
RATC regularly works on community transport with The TAS Partnership.
