Tour and Reception

To maximise the benefits of attending this event, we expect many delegates will want to arrive on Wednesday 18th March 2009, in order to go to the Reception and attend the Technical Tour. Delegates will be able to mix informally with other delegates at the centrally-located Apex City Hotel. A group ‘Indian’ meal will also be an option, immediately following the Reception.

Technical Tour

Wednesday 18th March 2009 14:00 - 17:00
To get the full story of the car club in Edinburgh today you will need to meet the team and see the full operation. We will assemble at the City Chambers from 13:00 onwards, where you will be able to register early and your bags and luggage can be left securely.

Our tour will include a range of practical, operational and planning issues:

  • discover how car club parking bay locations have been selected

  • learn about the process of introducing on-street parking bays in the city centre and in the residential suburbs

  • look at car club street signs and surface treatments

  • visit a new housing development to see how dedicated car club parking is designed in from the outset, including how a car club serves a ‘car free’ development.

Each Tour group will be a maximum of 15 delegates. This will give you the chance to learn about the practicalities of operating a large workplace car club for hundreds of centrally-located City of Edinburgh Council staff, meet the local car club team and hear from local car club members.

At the end of the Tour, our minibuses will take delegates and their bags to the Apex City Hotel or any other city centre hotel or guest house.

Reception
Wednesday 18th March 2009 18:15 - 19:30
To celebrate the first decade of commercial car clubs in Edinburgh, the City of Edinburgh Council is hosting a Reception for all speakers, delegates and sponsors in the City Chambers.

Stewart Stevenson MSP, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Climate Change in the Scottish Government, has accepted an invitation to attend and we are expecting to see a few other personalities who want to support the celebration. We shall be joined by a few of the key people from the 1990s - especially some car club members who joined in 1999 and have made the car club a normal part of their life for the last ten years.
