Through implementation of our Regional Transport Strategy (RTS), SEStran aims to build a world-class sustainable transportation system for South East Scotland that will:
- Encourage growth, regional prosperity and vitality in a sustainable manner
- Improve accessibility for people with limited transport choice or no access to a car to services, educational and employment opportunities and health care.
- Ensure that development is achieved in an environmentally sustainable manner
- Promote a healthier and more active SEStran area population.
SEStran will achieve these aims by; developing and improving public transportation and making it the mode of choice for most travellers; encouraging people to make "smart" travel choices, including sensible use of the car, considering walking and cycling where practicable; reducing the number of single-occupancy car journeys and car dependency in general and reducing greenhouse gas emissions and other pollutants.
